5 Alarming Stats About Abortion

Jan 17, 2025

1. Since the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, there have been more than 65 MILLION abortions in the United States.

2. In 2020 alone, there were 930,160 reported abortions.

That is nearly 77,000 abortions per month, about 2,548 abortions per day, about 106 abortions per hour, and about one abortion every 34 seconds.

The number of abortions increased in 2021 to 976,668.28.

But in 2022 – the year that Roe was overturned – abortions fell slightly to 951,618.

3. However, despite Roe’s reversal, the number of abortions increased in 2023 to an estimated 1,037,000 in the states without total abortion bans. This is an 11 percent increase from 2020.

4. While the 2023 abortion rate increased, the number is lower than it could have been without state abortion laws. According to birth rate data, an estimated 89,000 babies were saved between June 2022 through the end of 2023 in states where abortion laws are now in place.

5. More than 5,000 babies have been saved by the Abortion Pill Reversal Protocol.
